DALLAS (July 15, 2014) – Today, MV Transportation, Inc., announced it has retained its shuttle service contract with the City of Palo Alto for the Crosstown Shuttle and expanded it shuttle work with the City to operate the new East Palo Alto/Palo Alto Caltrain Shuttle route. Awarded by the Palo Alto City Council, the three-year transit contract began on July 1, 2014, and offers expanded shuttle services to the Palo Alto community.

Under the terms of the contract, MV will operate Palo Alto’s Extended Shuttle Program which includes the Crosstown Shuttle, operated by MV since 2011, and the new East Palo Alto/Palo Alto Caltrain Shuttle. The Crosstown Shuttle operates Monday through Friday and provides north-south transit connections with the University Avenue Caltrain station in Palo Alto. The new East Palo Alto/Palo Alto Caltrain Shuttle route operates seven days a week and links the University Avenue Caltrain station with the Woodland Avenue community in East Palo Alto. Both shuttles are free to riders.

To operate the shuttle services, MV will utilize a brand-new fleet of three compressed natural gas (“CNG”) vehicles equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including: a GPS tracking system; MV’s proprietary TimePoint software to monitor and report on-time shuttle performance; and DriveCam, a vehicle monitoring system on each vehicle to ensure safe operations and protect drivers and passengers. MV will also offer a new website accessible on smartphones that will enable passengers to track the location of the shuttles in real-time.

“Retaining MV as the City’s contractor provides consistency in service for the passengers, and also allows us to leverage our experience to collaborate with the City on future expansion plans,” said Kevin Klika, MV President and Chief Operating Officer. “MV is excited to provide the expanded shuttle service using a new technology-equipped CNG fleet which will provide a better overall passenger experience.”

Founded in 1975 in the San Francisco Bay area, MV Transportation operates more than 100 contracts in California.

Celebrating 26 Years of Providing Service to Petaluma

For 26 years, MV Transportation has proudly partnered with the City of Petaluma to support safe and reliable transportation. Since beginning fixed-route operations in 2000, MV’s Petaluma team has played an important role in helping connect riders to work, school, medical care, and the everyday destinations that keep a community moving.
Over the years, that partnership has continued to grow. In 2014, MV expanded its service in Petaluma to include paratransit operations, further supporting access for passengers who depend on specialized transportation. More recently, the division has helped support several major service milestones, including the launch of Petaluma Transit’s fare-free pilot in July 2024. With that effort, Petaluma became the first transit system in the Bay Area to eliminate fares for all riders across both fixed-route and paratransit services.
