At MV, we put people first. That commitment starts with investing in the training, leadership development, and career growth that help employees build meaningful, long-term careers.
For Isaac Del Hierro, that investment helped turn an entry-level driver role into a path to leadership. Since joining MV in 2018, Isaac has grown through roles in dispatch, operations, and safety before stepping into his current role as General Manager, a journey shaped by hands-on experience, mentorship, and MV’s commitment to helping team members succeed.
What has your career journey looked like at MV?
I started with MV in 2018 as a driver. In 2019, I moved into dispatch, and by the end of that year, I had transitioned into operations and safety. I served as a Safety Manager for about six years before stepping into my current role as General Manager. Each role gave me a deeper understanding of the business and helped prepare me for the next step in my career.
What training, mentorship, or development opportunities have been most valuable to your growth?
The most valuable development opportunity for me was MV’s General Manager Development Academy in 2023. It was a six-week program that gave me the chance to learn from leaders across the company and connect with other managers. The instruction was valuable, but the relationships and mentorship that came afterward made an even bigger impact. Being able to network with other leaders and continue learning from them has been immeasurable in my growth.
How would you describe the General Manager Development Academy?
The General Manager Development Academy is a six-week program designed for employees who are interested in becoming General Managers, as well as those who are new to the role. It provides a well-rounded education in key areas of the business, including finance, marketing, labor relations, recruiting, human resources, drug and alcohol compliance, and federal, state, and local compliance. It helps prepare leaders to better understand the full scope of what it takes to run a successful operation.
How do you support and mentor others who want to grow within the company?
One of the most fulfilling parts of being a General Manager is helping others see their own potential. At MV, we are encouraged to develop talent from within. When we see employees with strong skills or leadership potential, we have meaningful conversations with them about their goals. Sometimes employees may not realize there is a long-term career path for them in transit, so part of my role is helping them see those opportunities, providing guidance, and giving them the support they need to grow.
What advice would you give to someone just starting their career at MV?
My advice would be to stay open to opportunities and don’t be afraid to say yes. If you are motivated, find the work fulfilling, and want to contribute to the mission of providing great service, take advantage of the opportunities that come your way. Whether it’s helping with a project, working overtime, supporting the team on weekends, or stepping into something new, those experiences can help you grow.
Would you recommend MV to someone looking for a job or career change?
Yes, I would recommend MV, especially to someone looking for a company where they can grow. There are so many different career paths within MV, and a lot of people may not realize how many opportunities exist here. My advice would be to ask questions, make sure you understand the work, and never be afraid to ask for help. There is a lot of support available if you are willing to learn. That level of support and access to resources is something that stands out to me, especially compared to other places I’ve worked.
What stands out to you about the people and culture at MV?
The people aspect of MV is one of the company’s greatest strengths. MV is committed to listening to employees, gathering honest feedback, and using that feedback to improve the employee experience and workplace culture. There are also many people throughout the company who can serve as mentors in different areas. They bring unique backgrounds, experience, and knowledge that can help others solve problems, reach goals, and continue growing in their careers.
When you’re not at work, how do you like to spend your time?
Living near the Rocky Mountains, I enjoy spending time outdoors. Fishing is a big hobby of mine, and I also like hiking local trails whenever I can.
