At MV Transportation, many of our strongest leaders have grown their careers right here within the organization. Through our Career Development series, we highlight team members whose journeys reflect the opportunities for growth, mentorship, and leadership that define the MV experience. Today, we’re proud to spotlight Regina Flores, General Manager of our Livermore Division, whose path from cashier to General Manager demonstrates the power of dedication, continuous learning, and support from the MV team.
Describe your career in transit prior to coming to MV.
MV was my first job in transit.
Can you share a little about your journey at MV? What positions have you held on your way to this role?
I started as a cashier at the Livermore Transit Center, Dispatcher, Road supervisor, Accounting manager, Operations manager and now General Manager.
What originally drew you to join MV?
When I first started at MV I was looking for a full-time job with medical benefits for my son and I. Little did I know that MV was going to be my career. I have been fortunate to work under GMs that understood the importance of family first which allowed me the opportunity to attend every sporting/school event for my children.
Along the way, what training, mentorship, or development opportunities has MV offered that have been most valuable to your growth?
GMDA has made a huge impact on my development as a GM. Also, the leadership that I have received from MV Directors, Regional managers and SVP has been invaluable.
What’s one skill or lesson you’ve learned here that has been key to your success?
Ask questions; seek help when needed. You are not alone!
Who has inspired or supported you most in your career journey at MV?
I have been so fortunate to have worked with so many amazing leaders. When I started as a GM, Jennifer Singer was and still is my mentor, and I know for sure I would not have made it without her leadership and guidance. I also have been lucky to have an amazing Executive Director that saw something in me and allowed me the opportunity to excel.
How do you like to support and mentor others who are looking to grow within the company?
My goal is to develop my team to be the next group of leaders. I do this by supporting them and having clear and open communication. I also share my challenges because I feel that they can learn from them.
What advice would you give to someone just starting their career at MV?
Learn as much as you can and take advantage of all the opportunities that MV has to offer.
Fun question: When you’re not at work, how do you like to spend your time?
I love to cook and watch true crime and documentaries. The highlight of my week is Sunday dinners and football with my dad and family.
